Bedtime with Walter | West Milford, NJ

Documentary Photography

The most meaningful part of my job, is not only that I get to capture the start of a family together, the union (“wedding”) of 2 people committed to making memories together, no – that’s not my most meaningful… it’s when I get to take things a step further and capture their lives.. in their home… the one they are building (quite literally) together… with their expanding family… capturing it at each milestone along the way, and continuing to build that relationship together – elevating it from a photographer/client relationship, from a voyeur/objective/stranger relationship… to a more personal and deeper connection… it now becomes a friendship, a bit more subjective, and intimate. This is the part I love. When clients really let me in to their lives, and we’re not just “taking pictures” but we’re talking, reminiscing, sharing crazy stories, and deepening that relationship through the photos I take of their family through these important moments…

Anna+Kevin’s wedding was 3 years ago… they welcomed their baby boy Walter this past April and invited me into their new home (on Anna’s birthday!), one that they are literally building and fixing up together, to document a calm afternoon with them in their new roles as parents… my favorite time of day to watch the little rituals people have together…  bedtime..
