One of the things I love the most about photographing Connection sessions (which are my version of an engagement session), is not only the fact that we get to meet each other beforehand, but really the idea that my couples get a chance to decompress from all of their wedding planning, get in front of the camera – which is something that rarely most of us get a chance to do ever – and demystify the idea of having “photos taken” of us. I love seeing how much people change from the beginning of a session to the end. It’s really just so interesting to me, and you can notice it in the photos comparing the beginning to the end – seeing how the process can relax you and put you at ease. John mentioned to me a conversation with his grandmother about how stoic-feeling and traditional his grandmother’s wedding photos felt, and I find it fascinating, how in flipping through these images, they are the complete opposite of that. Crazy what time does to the concept of photography – how it can change how something is viewed or perceived. While there are some calmer, more serene images, their bubbly personalities definitely came out, especially at the end, when Mili quite literally let her hair down and just enjoyed being in each other’s presence and the process of these images. Below are just a few of my favorites from the session, a mix of calm and fun, and so true to John and Mili as a couple.
